Juancarlo Añez has over 35 years of professional experience in software engineering, consulting, and teaching. In 2021, they began working as the Director of Language Engineering at ResQSoft, Inc., where they design and implements tools to migrate software from legacy systems to modern platforms. Juancarlo also built the open-source TatSu parser/compiler generator, as well as translators and runtimes for legacy programming languages such as AG Natural, COBOL, Visual Basic, and Java, among others.

From 2017 to 2021, Juancarlo worked as a Software Engineer at Zyte (formerly Scrapinghub). In this role, they were part of the Professional Services team for Brandview and helped solve several architectural, standards, management, and infrastructure problems. Juancarlo also learned about web crawling and scraping, and anti-bot and anti-anti-bot strategies and algorithms.

From 2012 to 2017, Juancarlo worked as a Software Engineer at ResQSoft, Inc. In this role, they designed and implemented tools to migrate software from legacy systems to modern platforms. Juancarlo also built the open-source Grako parser/compiler generator, as well as translators and runtimes for legacy programming languages such as AG Natural, COBOL, Visual Basic, and Java, among others.

From 2006 to 2011, Juancarlo worked as an Associate Consultant at SYNC Consultores, a Consultant at Safeco, an Associate at DBAccess, and a Software Engineer at BiD Network Foundation.

From 2002 to 2006, Juancarlo worked as a Professor at UCAB.

From 1985 to 2006, Juancarlo worked as an Independent Consultant on many software projects, ranging from programmer to architect to consultant in methodology. Juancarlo also worked as a Researcher at Modelistica, where they helped improve the state of the art of transportation and land-use simulation.

Juancarlo Añez began their educational journey in 1974, attending St Bernadette's Catholic Primary School in Brighton, England, where they completed the 5th grade. From 1971 to 1981, they attended Colegio Emil Friedman, where they obtained their Bachiller in Ciencias. From 1981 to 1987, Juancarlo attended Universidad Simón Bolívar, where they earned an Engineer's Degree in Computing Engineer. Most recently, Juancarlo has obtained a 6th degree in Aikido from Santa Fe Dojo.
