Carl Scafidi has extensive work experience in the field of hardware engineering. Carl is currently employed at Rivos Inc. as a Hardware Engineer, starting in August 2021. Prior to this, they worked at Intel Corporation for over 25 years, holding various roles and responsibilities.
At Intel, Carl served as the Memory Encryption and Security Design Lead from January 2018 to August 2021. In this position, they defined and designed the memory security engine controller for data confidentiality and integrity protection. Carl also developed reference C++ validation libraries for AES-XTS 128/256 algorithms.
From 2016 to 2018, Carl worked as a part of the 10nm Memory Interface Protocol Design team. Carl played a significant role in defining and designing interface modules for 10nm products, ensuring optimal performance and compatibility.
In their earlier roles at Intel, Carl was involved in the design, coding, and architecture of various projects, such as the Denverton Memory Controller Logic Design, Denverton Microserver Emulation, Denverton Microserver SoC Integration, Validation Software Design, Tukwila Processor Uncore MP Verification, Montecito Processor Post Silicon Verification, and Itanium Microarchitecture Research. Carl contributed to the development and verification of several processors and IPs, and implemented innovative solutions to enhance performance and functionality.
Throughout their career, Carl has demonstrated a strong proficiency in programming languages such as C++ and has accumulated extensive knowledge in areas such as memory encryption, security, and interface protocols.
Carl Scafidi earned their Bachelor's Degree in Computer Hardware Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Carl attended the university from 1989 to 1993. Following this, they pursued a Master's Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the same university, completing it from 1993 to 1995.
In addition to their formal education, Carl Scafidi obtained a certification in Machine Learning from Coursera in January 2021.
