James Murphy

James Murphy has a diverse and extensive background in the field of information security and technology. James'smost recent role is as the SVP, Director of Information Security at Rockland Trust, a position they have held since May 2019. Prior to this, they served as the VP, Director of Information Security at Rockland Trust from June 2018 to May 2019.

Before joining Rockland Trust, James worked as an IT Examiner at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) from March 2016 to June 2018. James was responsible for conducting examinations of financial institutions' IT management practices.

James also held the position of VP, Regulatory Engagement Manager at Citizens Bank from March 2015 to February 2016. In this role, they oversaw regulatory compliance and engagement.

From September 2011 to March 2015, James worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston as an IT Specialist. James served as a commissioned IT Bank Examiner, leading and participating in reviews of financial institutions' IT practices. James also acted as the Central Point of Contact for joint reviews conducted with other regulatory agencies.

James has previous experience as a Mentor at the SANS Institute, where they facilitated learning sessions on network security. James held this role from January 2008 to January 2015.

In addition, James founded and served as the CEO/Owner of Strategic INFOSEC Consulting LLC from December 2007 to June 2013. The company provided consulting and implementation services for small and medium-sized businesses to enhance their security posture.

Earlier in their career, James held positions such as Information Security Officer at Steward Health Care from September 2009 to September 2011, Solution Delivery Specialist at EMC from July 2008 to July 2009, and Infrastructure Security Architect (Contract) at Starwood Hotels & Resorts from April 2007 to December 2007.

James began their career as the Information & Network Technology Manager at Boston Trust & Investment Management Co from December 2005 to April 2007. In this role, they managed the overall IT functions, including staff, vendors, and system design.

James Murphy received a BS in Business Administration from Merrimack College in 1994. James later obtained an MS in Information Technology Management from Brandeis University in 2007. Additionally, they hold various certifications, including the Proofpoint Certified Security Awareness Specialist 2023 and the SASE Accreditation from Netskope, both obtained in July 2023. James is also certified in other areas such as data privacy, project management, and information security.
