Carl Morten Odegard has extensive work experience in the humanitarian sector, primarily with the Norwegian Red Cross. Carl Morten joined the Norwegian Red Cross in 2006 as a Delegate in Lebanon, focusing on organizational development and capacity building. From 2008 to 2010, they worked with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies as the Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting Coordinator for Europe. Carl Morten then returned to the Norwegian Red Cross as a Program Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa from 2010 to 2011.
Odegard joined the United Nations OCHA as a Humanitarian Affairs Officer in Switzerland in 2011 and served until 2013. Carl Morten then rejoined the Norwegian Red Cross as a Country Representative in Nepal, leading recovery operations following the earthquakes in 2015. Carl Morten managed the support to the Nepal Red Cross Society's integrated recovery program in Sindhupalchok District. In 2015, they also briefly worked with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies as the Nepal Earthquake Emergency Response Unit Team Leader.
Odegard continued their journey with the Norwegian Red Cross, taking on various roles including Surge Delegate in Iraq, Partner, and Accountability Advisor, and Country Manager in Syria from 2017 to 2019. Carl Morten then served as the Regional Representative Deputy for the Middle East and North Africa from 2019 to 2021, and later as the Acting Regional Representative from 2021 to 2022. Most recently, they held the position of Head of Results and Support for National Programs and Preparedness.
Throughout their career, Odegard has demonstrated their expertise in program management, monitoring and evaluation, and emergency response. Carl Morten has a strong focus on recovery and has played a crucial role in supporting communities in times of crises.
Carl Morten Odegard obtained their Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, Development Studies, and Contemporary History from Lillehammer University College, Oslo University College, and the University in Oslo. Carl Morten completed this four-year program from 1999 to 2003.
Following their undergraduate studies, they pursued a Master's Degree in Political Science at the University in Oslo from 2004 to 2009.
In 2005, Odegard also spent a year as a guest student at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, where they furthered their studies in Political Science as part of their master's degree.
After gaining their Master's Degree, Odegard shifted their focus to research and academia. In 2011, they attended the Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences to pursue a Ph.D. in the field of Theory of Science and Research Ethics. Carl Morten completed this program within the same year.
