Rick Matthews

Director, Content Strategy, Music Brands & In-house Productions at Rogers Sports & Media

Rick Matthews has a diverse range of work experience in the media and entertainment industry. Rick most recently worked as the Director of Content Strategy for Music Brands and In-House Productions at Rogers Sports & Media. In this role, they were responsible for leading the digital content strategy for key media properties in the company's portfolio.

Prior to that, Matthews served as the Executive Director of the Cabbagetown Business Improvement Area, where they provided overall leadership and strategic direction for one of Toronto's oldest and most diverse BIA's. Rick supported local economic development through the creation and implementation of strategic plans, and acted as the principal spokesperson for the association.

Matthews also worked at Corus Entertainment as the VP of Kin Community Canada, where they managed the overall sales, strategy, and operations of the company. Rick led the integration of complex processes and systems and created Kin's forecast and strategic plan.

Before their time at Corus Entertainment, Matthews held various positions at Kin Community, including VP International and Managing Director, Canada. In these roles, they launched the company's international operations and set the vision and go-to-market strategy for the Canadian market. Rick also fostered relationships with other Canadian leaders in the media and business sectors and drove substantial growth for the company.

Earlier in their career, Matthews worked at CBC as the Executive Producer of Steven and Chris, where they supervised all aspects of the production and provided editorial leadership.

Overall, Matthews has a track record of leadership, strategic planning, and driving growth in the media and entertainment industry.

Rick Matthews has a Master of Journalism (MJ) from Ryerson University and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) / Bachelor of Education (BEd) from the University of Calgary. Rick has also obtained a certification in Audience Development from the YouTube Certification Program in 2019.
