Álvaro Moreno is an experienced professional with a strong background in community development, refugee support, and education. Currently serving as Project Lead at the Victoria Coalition for Survivors of Torture since September 2019, Álvaro collaborates with health and social service professionals to assist survivors in overcoming oppression. As an Associate Faculty Member at Royal Roads University, Álvaro provides guidance to students pursuing capstone projects in the MA in Global Leadership program. Previous roles include Coordinator of the Refugee Sponsorship Program for the Anglican Diocese of BC, where Álvaro helped welcome over 200 Syrian refugees, and Organizational and Sustainable Development Advisor with Cuso International in Colombia. Álvaro has also held key positions at Development Action and the Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Centre, focusing on social innovation and settlement programs for newcomers. With a Master of Sciences in Rural Sociology from the University of Alberta and a BSC in Agricultural Engineering from the University of El Salvador, Álvaro brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to community and international development initiatives.
