Sew-Wah Tay began their work experience in 1988 as a Sr. Scientist at St. Jude Medical. They then worked as a Program Manager at Scimed/Boston Scientific from 1991 to 1994. From 1995 to 1996, they served as a Sr. Clinical Project Associate at Gudant/BSCI. Following this, they held the role of VP Regulatory, Clinical and QA at Survivalink/Cardiac Science from 1996 to 2001. At Velocimed/St. Jude Medical, they served as a VP Regulatory, Clinical and Quality Assurance from 2001 to 2005. They then worked as VP Regulatory and Clinical Affairs at American Medical Systems from 2005 to 2006. From 2005 to 2007, they held the title of VP of Reg and Clinical at AMS. Sew-Wah Tay was the CEO and Partner at Libra Medical Inc. from 2007 until 2023. Currently, they are working as the VP Regulatory Strategies at RQM+.

Sew-Wah Tay earned an MS/PhD degree in Biomaterials from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, completing their education between 1981 and 1986. They also attended Universiti Putra Malaysia, although specific details regarding degree and field of study are not provided.
