James Downing

James Downing is an experienced journalist specializing in the electric industry and regulatory coverage. Currently serving as the DC Correspondent for RTO Insider LLC since January 2023, Downing focuses on Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in Virginia and North Carolina. Previously, Downing worked as a Reporter for CQ Roll Call from November 2021 to December 2022, where coverage included FERC, electricity, and pipelines. Prior to that, Downing held the position of Editor/Reporter at Power Markets Today from January 2007 to November 2021, and briefly reported for Sentinel & Enterprise in 2006. Downing earned a BA/BS in Political Science and Journalism from Boston University in 2006.
