Job description

About us:

Rye is a set of commerce APIs that enables developers to profit from selling any product, without the complexities of inventory ownership, order fulfillment, or any other logistics. We want to transform online commerce to allow purchases to be made directly inside of any app - without any redirects.

About the role:

Our systems are built around eCommerce, tracking orders, order placement, returns, and inventory and search. We're proud of our best-in-class tooling that includes a GraphQL API, a gRPC backend system, and Node.js services.

We’re looking for a Senior or Staff Full-Stack Engineer to deliver large, complex projects end to end and coordinate features across team members and systems, within our fully remote team. (NOTE: We're not hiring front-end developers at this time.)

What you'll get to work on:

  • Develop features and build infrastructure to integrate with external platforms like Amazon, Shopify, WooCommerce, and BigCommerce
  • Build and maintain high-quality APIs for eCommerce, focusing on tracking orders, order placement, returns
  • Develop user-friendly interfaces using modern front-end technologies like React, TypeScript, and Next.js
  • Collaborate with designers to implement UI/UX designs and provide feedback for quick design iterations
  • Implement server-side rendering and other front-end architectural patterns for improved SEO
  • Stand up new infrastructure on GCP, Netlify, etc.
  • Create tutorials, product explorers for merchants integrated with Rye, and internal tools to manage orders and enable business people to interact with customers
  • Work independently and communicate proactively with a remote-first team

What we're looking for:

  • 3+ years of experience in engineering frontend and backend systems, with some experience working in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Experience building systems with a GraphQL API and GCP backend
  • Proficiency in React and modern front-end libraries like Tailwind is needed, and Node.js and TypeScript (or similar) for the backend
  • Experience with front-end build pipelines and deployment platforms like Netlify
  • Familiarity with server-side rendering using Next.js and other front-end architectural patterns for SEO
  • Passion for both back-end and front-end development, where creating great user experiences is quintessential, even without a designer
  • Excellent communication skills, growth mindset, thoughtful, and ability to work independently under tight timelines

Why join us?

  • Autonomy and full-ownership over large, complex problems
  • $130 - $180k salary + substantial equity in a $14M seed-stage startup
  • 100% remote team
  • Unlimited PTO
