Columnista-formadora De Opinión at SA LA NACION

Velia Govaere is a distinguished political analyst specializing in international trade and foreign policy, currently serving as a Formadora de Opinión at La Nacion since 1993. In addition to this role, Velia has been a Columnista-Formadora de Opinión at Universidad Estatal a Distancia de Costa Rica since June 2009 and previously coordinated the Observatorio de Comercio Exterior at Consejo de Promoción de la Competitividad Costa Rica from 2013 to 2015. Velia's experience includes serving as Viceministra at the Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Comercio from 2009 to 2010, where responsibilities encompassed issues related to SMEs and trade negotiations. As a consultant, Velia has worked with Chemonics International and the Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo, providing expertise in institutional restructuring and trade agreements. Velia holds a Master's degree in International Commercial Law from the Universidad de Michigan and a Bachelor's degree in Law from Universidad de Costa Rica, along with a Doctorate in Law from Universidad Estatal a Distancia de Costa Rica.
