Akash Manilal

Akash Manilal has extensive work experience in the engineering and software development field. Akash started their career in 2012 as a Mobile Developer at Apond, where they were responsible for specifying requirements, designing, implementing, and deploying Android applications.

In 2013, they joined Altran Portugal as a Junior Software Developer, where they implemented a Proof of Concept for television stations and designed and implemented features for a soccer website. Akash also proposed new business opportunities for customer engagement.

From 2014 to 2016, Akash worked as a Software Engineer at KPMG Portugal. Akash developed cross-platform applications for animal health professionals and maintained web, Android, and iOS applications. Akash was involved in defining requirements, maintaining backlog, and demoing the products to clients.

At Farfetch, where they worked from 2016 to 2017 as an IT Developer, Akash contributed to the development and implementation of frontend features for a global online luxury fashion retail platform. Akash also mentored new developers, assisted in SCRUM meetings, and analyzed customer behavior to improve the platform.

From 2017 to 2019, Akash served as an Engineering Manager at MapCreator. Akash managed a team, set goals, conducted appraisals, maintained the product backlog, and implemented SCRUM. Akash was also responsible for frontend development, code reviews, UI/UX definition, and automated testing.

In 2019, Akash became the Head of Engineering at ABSOLUTA, where they took part in strategic decisions, reported to the CEO on engineering KPIs, and built and scaled a SCRUM-oriented development team.

Most recently, Akash worked as the Head of Engineering at THE LIST from 2020 to 2023. Akash was responsible for managing, scaling, and restructuring the engineering department. Akash defined the tech strategy of the company, oversaw the Lisbon office, and monitored Tech OKRs. Akash managed six areas, including Frontend, Backend, Mobile, Web, Data, and CORE.

Starting in 2023, Akash will take on the role of Director of Engineering and Country Manager at Sabi.

Akash Manilal pursued their education in a chronological manner. Akash obtained a Licentiate degree in Engenharia de Computação from Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto from 2008 to 2012. Later, from 2012 to 2015, they pursued a Master of Engineering (MEng) in Engenharia de Software at Instituto Superior Técnico.

In addition to their formal education, Akash Manilal has also obtained several certifications. In July 2020, they received certifications in Fluent API Development in C# and Scrum: Advanced from LinkedIn. In April 2020, they obtained the certification for Working with Difficult People, and in March 2020, they obtained the certification for Leading at a Distance, both from LinkedIn. Furthermore, in October 2014, they acquired the IBM Worklight V6.0 Mobile Application Development certification from IBM. Lastly, in May 2013, they obtained the Academic Certificate TOEFL from The IELTS TOEFL Centre.
