Mark Carleton-Smith has a diverse work experience that spans various roles in both the military and private sector. Mark is currently working as a Non Executive Director at SafeLane Global and a Senior Consultant at CT Group, both starting in 2023. Prior to that, they served as Chief of the General Staff in the British Army from June 2018 to June 2022. Mark also held positions in the UK Ministry of Defence, including Director Military Strategy and Operations from April 2016 to June 2018, and Director Army Resources and Plans from December 2008 to November 2011. In the British Army, they served as Director Corporate Strategy from April 2015 to March 2016 and Commander 16 Air Assault Brigade from December 2006 to November 2008. Earlier in their career, Mark Carleton-Smith worked in Strategic Command as Director Special Forces from February 2012 to March 2015, and as Commanding Officer 22 Special Air Service Regiment from December 2002 to May 2005. Mark also worked in the UK Ministry of Defence as Deputy Director Policy Planning from June 2005 to December 2006.

Mark Carleton-Smith earned a BA Hons degree in History and Politics from Durham University from 1982 to 1985.
