Alisa Vershinina has a strong background in bioinformatics and computational biology. Alisa is currently employed as a Senior Scientist in Bioinformatics at SalioGen Therapeutics, where they provide technical expertise in analysis and data generation for NGS projects. Alisa is also responsible for identifying and addressing computational biology infrastructure needs, overseeing bioinformatic analysis of genome editing research projects, and communicating genomic data to senior and executive management.
Prior to their current role, Alisa worked as a Scientist at LifeMine Therapeutics, focusing on computational biology and genomics. Alisa also has extensive experience as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where they planned, designed, and executed numerous next-generation sequencing experiments. Their work involved sequencing and analyzing ancient horse genomes, as well as managing large-scale genetic research projects.
In addition to their research experience, Alisa also worked as a Graduate Researcher in the Shapiro lab at the University of California, Santa Cruz. During this time, they conducted molecular and bioinformatic analysis of genomes to investigate the evolutionary history of equids. Alisa also developed and validated a unique SNP genotyping panel and conducted DNA extraction and quality assessment of contaminated samples.
Earlier in their career, Alisa worked as a Research Assistant at the Zoological Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences, where they focused on genetics and karyosystematics. Alisa also gained experience as a private tutor.
Overall, Alisa Vershinina has a diverse range of experience in bioinformatics, genomics, and genetic research, and they have demonstrated a strong ability to manage and execute complex projects.
Alisa Vershinina completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of California, Santa Cruz from 2015 to 2020. Prior to that, from 2010 to 2012, they obtained their Master of Science degree in Biology from Saint Petersburg State University. Alisa also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the same university, which they completed from 2006 to 2010.
In addition to their academic degrees, Alisa Vershinina has obtained several certifications. These include "Python Functions, Files, and Dictionaries" from the University of Michigan | Coursera in April 2022, "R Programming" from Coursera in August 2014, "The Data Scientist’s Toolbox" from Coursera in August 2014, "Experimental Genome Science" from Coursera in October 2012, "GRE® revised General Test" from ETS Global B.V. in October 2014, and "TOEFL iBT" from ETS Global in August 2014.
