Mark Brooker

Mark Brooker is an experienced media professional and community advocate based in Newcastle, NSW. As the founder and publisher of The Local, Mark has been instrumental in delivering a monthly community newspaper to over 11,000 homes and businesses since May 2014. In addition to this role, Mark has served as a Disability Support Worker at the Samaritans Foundation since July 2014 and briefly ran as an independent candidate for Ward 3 City of Newcastle in late 2021. Previously, Mark held various publishing and advertising roles at local newspapers, including Lambton & New Lambton Local and Newcastle Newspapers Pty Ltd. Mark's education includes a degree in Arts and Psychology from the University of Newcastle.
