We are growing rapidly, and the company is at a pivotal and exciting stage of translating our founding technologies into scale-up and then industrial scale implementation. We are expanding our team with experts in their fields to help support this exponential growth. Having recently completed a significant capital raise, we have growing investor sophistication and Board involvement and require a step-up in our financial discipline. We are currently working on the investment case for a first-of-kind commercial facility which will require agreement with Joint Venture partners, financiers and Samsara’s Board.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Financial Planning Analyst to join our dynamic finance team. This role involves developing and maintaining robust financial models, providing insightful analysis to support key business decisions, and preparing comprehensive investment cases.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background across a range of financial planning and analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex financial information effectively. You will be comfortable navigating financial statements, and an expert is modern IT tools to perform your work effectively. We continue to implement new and supplementary applications to streamline our data and financial control, and your interest in continuous improvement will be key to success. (As we are a small and growing business, Microsoft Excel wizardry will also be required from time to time).
Key Responsibilities...
Budgeting and Forecasting:
Lead the annual budgeting process. (FY26 onwards), working closely with department heads to ensure alignment with strategic goals.
Monitor and report on financial performance against budget
Prepare an updated financial forecast (6 monthly), identifying key variances and underlying drivers.
Financial Analysis and Reporting:
Monthly Cashflow analysis and reporting, including owning the cashflow model for efficient cash planning.
Prepare monthly financial performance suite of analysis for Board and Investor audiences.
Prepare and present monthly financial reports for senior management to action as required, including (from time to time) in-depth financial spend analysis.
Financial Modelling:
Develop, maintain, and enhance complex financial models to support budgeting, forecasting, and long-term planning.
Ensure models are accurate, reliable, and aligned with business objectives.
Perform scenario analysis and sensitivity testing (from time to time) to evaluate potential outcomes and risks against base company forecasts.
Continuously improve modeling techniques and tools to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Business Case Preparation:
Preparation of detailed business cases for new initiatives, capital projects, and strategic investments.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather relevant data and assumptions.
Conduct thorough financial analysis (eg ROI, NPV, IRR, and payback period calculations).
Support internal approval process to gain senior management/Board endorsement.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work collaboratively across the company as all departments contribute to the overall R&D, growth and direction of the company that will impact the financial planning and performance.
Work collaboratively within the Finance team, taking on ad-hoc assignments from time to time as required.
Act as a trusted advisor to business partners, helping them understand financial implications and make informed decisions.
Qualifications...
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field; CA or CPA preferred.
5+ years of experience in financial planning and analysis, with a focus on business case preparation and financial modeling.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling software.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
Experience with ERP systems (we currently use Xero) and financial planning software will help you suceed in this role.
