John Gabriel is the current Education Director at San Diego Opera. John has also worked as an Executive Director at Center for World Music and as a Special Education and Substitute Teacher at CUSD. John has been highly successful in building positive and meaningful opportunities for cultural exchange. John is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the organization, including managing committees, staff, volunteers, 30 contracted artist-teachers, 16 performing ensembles, and over 100 artists and agents around the world. John has also developed a school program in San Diego that reaches over 10,000 youth annually with in-depth world music and dance education. On an annual basis, they manage about 50 concerts, programs at 25 San Diego County schools, one or two international visiting-artist North America tours per year, and 7 offerings of international workshops and cultural tours.
John Gabriel holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from University of California, Santa Cruz and a Master of Arts in Musicology from San Diego State University.
