Jeffrey Tumlin currently serves as a Board Member for the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO) since March 2024 and has been the Executive Director of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) since December 2019. Prior to these roles, Tumlin was the Principal and Director of Strategy at Nelson\Nygaard from 1998 to December 2019, during which time also acted as the interim director of the Oakland Department of Transportation and focused on transit-oriented development and station area planning. Earlier in Tumlin's career, from 1992 to 1997, Tumlin was the Transportation Programs Manager at Stanford University, successfully accommodating 2.5 million square feet of growth without increasing peak period auto trips. Tumlin holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Urban Studies from Stanford University, obtained in 1991.
