Karen Wentzel

Karen Wentzel has extensive work experience in the insurance industry. Karen started their career in 2000 as an Actuarial Assistant at Metropolitan Health Group and worked there until 2002. From 2002 to 2008, Karen joined Metropolitan where they performed financial soundness valuations, profit measurement, development and maintenance of projection models, and ad hoc investigations. In 2008, they joined Sanlam as the Head of Annuities for Employee Benefits, a role they held until January 2020. In January 2020, Karen became the Head of Annuities for Sanlam Corporate.

Karen Wentzel has a diverse education history. Karen started their education journey by obtaining a Hons. B.Comm degree in Actuarial Science from Stellenbosch University between 1995 and 1999. Following this, they pursued further education at the University of Cape Town, where they obtained postgraduate diplomas in Life insurance and Pensions in the field of Accounting and Finance from 2000 to 2003.

In 2000, Karen also enrolled at the Actuarial Society of South Africa to study Life Insurance. Karen'sstudies continued until 2023. During the same period, they also studied at the Institute of Actuaries and obtained a Fellow of Institute of Actuaries (FIA) degree specializing in Life Insurance.

Karen's education then took a different direction in 2014 when they attended the University of the Free State to study Financial Planning. Karen'sstudies in this field were completed in 2015. In addition to their formal education, they obtained several certifications, including becoming a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) from the Financial Planning Institute of Southern Africa in May 2016. Karen also completed the Regulatory Examination Level 1: Representative from the Financial Services Board in August 2011.
