Marcel Scheepstra

Marcel Scheepstra has extensive work experience in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery. Marcel currently holds the position of Medicinal Chemist - Principal Scientist at Scenic Biotech since January 2022. Prior to that, they worked as a Medicinal Chemist - Senior Scientist at Scenic Biotech from January 2021 to January 2022. Before joining Scenic Biotech, Marcel worked as a Senior Scientist in Medicinal Chemistry at Symeres from September 2020 to January 2021. Marcel also gained significant experience at Mercachem, where they worked as a Senior Scientist in Medicinal Chemistry from November 2016 to September 2020. In this role, they led the innovation team and successfully initiated several small molecule drug discovery programs and a protein degradation platform. Marcel also collaborated closely with other functional departments for ADME and DMPK studies. Prior to their industry experience, they worked as a Visiting Student at the University of Oxford in 2012, focusing on carbohydrates and chemically induced posttranslational modifications for proteins. Marcel began their research career as a Researcher at TU/e Spinoza Institute from June 2010 to June 2011.

Marcel Scheepstra has an extensive educational background in the field of Chemical Biology. Marcel pursued their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Chemical Biology from the Eindhoven University of Technology, completing the program from 2012 to 2016. Before their doctoral studies, Marcel also obtained their Ir. (MSc) degree in Chemical Biology from the same university, studying from 2004 to 2011. Marcel began their academic journey by completing their VWO degree with a specialization in "Natuur en gezondheid" (Profile: Science and Health) from the Goudse Scholen Gemeenschap Leo Vroman school, spanning from 1997 to 2003.
