Ian O'Brien is currently the Director of Safety and Security at School for International Training. Ian has a long history of working in international development, dating back to 2004 with American World Services Corporation. In 2007, they began working with AECOM on various international development projects. Ian then spent two years as a Program Officer for Economic Development at International Relief and Development (IRD). In 2009, they transitioned to the International City/County Management Association (ICMA), where they served as Senior Field Operations Manager. In this role, they were responsible for providing oversight of ICMA's international field projects. Ian also helped design and roll out field operations policies and procedures across all ICMA international projects. Ian has participated in start-up and close-out of field projects, and has provided on-going field implementation assistance in the areas of financial management systems, procurement, and human resources. Ian has also monitored security standards and practices, and trained local host country national staff on operations procedures. Some of the projects they have covered include USAID programs in Afghanistan, Iraq, Jordan and Ethiopia.
Ian O'Brien has a Bachelor of Arts from Davidson College in Theirtory and a Master's of Business Education from The George Washington University. Ian also has certification from ASIS International as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP).
