Scripps College
Matthew Burt is currently an Adjunct Lecturer at Scripps College, co-teaching a course on the morality and stigma of shame, while also pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Social Psychology at Claremont Graduate University. As a doctoral student, research focuses on the use of humorous language to reduce bias among groups, incorporating Contact Theory, Social Identity Theory, and Communication Accommodation Theory. Additionally, Matthew has held multiple leadership roles within Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology, including Co-President, Vice President, and Secretary, where responsibilities included organizing events, coordinating with faculty, and serving as a liaison between students and administrators. Education includes a Master's and Bachelor's degree in Social Psychology from Humboldt State University.
