Joseph Wittrock

Chief Investment Officer at Security Benefit

Joseph Wittrock has extensive experience in the investment industry. From 2000 to 2004, they worked at Aviva Investors as the Head of Research - North America, where they led and directed fixed income credit research for a $30 billion portfolio. During this time, they recruited professionals, developed organizational structures, and achieved strong investment performance.

From 2009 to 2013, Joseph served as the Chief Investment Officer at Aviva USA. In this role, they were responsible for a $60 billion asset portfolio and led a 130-member investment team across various disciplines. Joseph successfully re-built and re-organized the investment team, implementing a performance measurement framework.

Since 2014, Joseph has been with Security Benefit, where they initially held the position of Vice President Investments, responsible for building the investment team and infrastructure for a $25 billion asset portfolio. Joseph recruited and developed the entire team, enhancing effectiveness and efficiency. Joseph was promoted to the position of Chief Investment Officer in 2017 and now oversees a $25 billion asset portfolio and a $15 billion notional derivative portfolio. Joseph leads a 50-member investment team across six functional disciplines.

Joseph Wittrock obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with Honors in Quantitative Finance and Strategic Management from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business, where they studied from 2003 to 2006. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Finance and Banking; Economics, graduating summa cum laude from Buena Vista University between 1996 and 2000. Additionally, Joseph Wittrock holds a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder certification from the CFA Institute.
