Please note: This role is remote but may be required to be in the office/other in-state work sites up to two days per week. Candidates must reside in the US and be authorized to work in the United States. We are unable to offer visa sponsorship. 

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW 

An increasing number of Americans– most of whom are women and people of color– are employed in service sector jobs that are marked by low wages, no health care, job insecurity, and lack of training and career advancement opportunities. The SEIU Education & Support Fund tackles these issues by designing and facilitating worker-centered, relationship-based, and accessible education, training and workforce development programs. We serve as a strategic partner to the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), and collaborate with other unions, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and employers to help workers access good jobs and spark positive social change. Throughout our work, we promote a culture of empowerment that honors experience, culture, diversity, and inclusion. 

PROGRAM OVERVIEW 

The 509 Public Sector Training Fund serves more than 8,000 human service workers and educators employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Our members work in 13 state agencies including the Department of Children and Families, Department of Transitional Assistance, and Department of Developmental Services. Our members include Social Workers, Human Service Coordinators, Educational Specialists, and Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors. 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Training Coordinator will be a vital member of our 509 Public Sector Training Fund team playing a key role in supporting our members accessing high quality training and professional development resources. Reporting to the Fund’s Program Manager, the Training Coordinator will facilitate training sessions, track and report training data, respond to members’ questions and requests, assist with program planning and support marketing and communications activities, and support the work of the various programs offered by the Training Fund.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Assist in planning, preparation, and implementation of high quality training programs for our members.
  • Host training events, including welcoming participants, managing questions, tracking issues, setting breakout rooms, tracking attendance and other related activities.
  • Provide technical and logistical support before and during training to ensure programs are delivered successfully.
  • Enter and track participant data in Salesforce, ensure accurate and timely information is available to assist with planning and reporting.
  • Monitor incoming messages, provide customer support, resolution and triage as necessary.
  • Ensure equitable access to trainings by coordinating support for live translation, interpretation and/or captioning support.
  • Assist with the development and distribution of marketing and promotional materials.
  • Cultivate strong trusting relationships with SEIU Local 509 members, providing excellent customer service when they reach out with questions or concerns, and attending or leading committee meetings or feedback sessions.
  • Provide logistical and clerical support for Grants and Scholarship programs, including follow-ups with applicants, gathering documentation, and other tasks as required.
  • May require in-state travel and/or the ability to work infrequent evening and/or weekend hours. Infrequent out-of-state travel is also required.

  • Digitally fluent and comfortable using technology tools including Google Suite, Salesforce, SurveyMonkey, MailChimp, Asana, and Slack in a professional environment.
  • Ability to work independently and be a self starter as well as a collaborator in a dynamic team environment; can balance inclusive processes while driving toward deadlines.
  • Experience working with diverse communities, including ESL populations, and vulnerable and traditionally marginalized populations.
  • Has exceptional judgment, interpersonal skills, and a desire to develop and grow a talented team

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Two plus years experience coordinating projects and programs from inception to completion with attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully hosting or facilitating trainings and/or large virtual meetings/events.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, commitment to the highest level of stakeholder communications, ability to genuinely engage with and advocate for members, and triage or elevate issues or questions effectively.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Familiarity with labor-management training funds, organized labor, and/or, the experiences and challenges faced by public sector workers, human service workers and educators, or other unionized workforces (preferred)
  • Familiarity in working with data entry or data management (preferred)
  • Bi-lingual, in Spanish or ASL (preferred)
