Starting in 2007, Tam worked as a Research Technician at the University of Oklahoma, where they gained valuable experience in research roles.

In 2008, Tam joined Southwest Research Institute as a Senior Research Engineer. In 2016, Tam joined Seno Medical as a Senior Firmware Engineer. Their responsibilities included developing firmware for an innovative medical imaging device, along with engineering design, defect management, testing, and verification. After two years, they were promoted to the role of Systems Engineering Manager, where they led a team of systems engineers in developing new products, managing requirements and risk traceability, and incorporating human factors engineering into the design process. Notably, they also coordinated usability studies, design validation, risk management reporting, and intellectual property docket management.
