Joel Margolese's work experience began in 1985 at Apollo Computer, where they worked as a Software Engineer in the operating systems group. Joel developed new disk maintenance utilities that increased performance by 500%.
From 1990 to 1991, Joel worked as a Consultant in the Information Industries Practice at Booz Allen & Hamilton. Joel conducted industry analysis, customer interviews, and strategic reviews for major corporations.
From 1991 to 1993, Joel served as the Manager of Product Marketing for Commercial OCR products at Xerox Imaging Systems (later renamed ScanSoft). Joel successfully redefined the core product from a high-cost hardware system to low-cost shrink-wrapped software.
From 1993 to 1996, Joel worked at Wildfire Communications as a Product Manager/Manager of Customer Operations.
From 1997 to 2011, Joel was the Co-founder, President, and Lead Developer at MinutePoll, a division of Shapiro (formerly LJS, LLC). Joel designed and implemented fault-tolerant systems for large-scale IVR automated telephone opinion polls and GOTV calling campaigns, growing the company into one of the largest IVR service providers.
From 2011 to 2014, Joel was the Co-founder and Lead Developer at Mainely Software. Joel created and implemented mobile strategies for clients, designing and developing mobile apps and managing all aspects of the process.
From 2014 to 2017, Joel worked as the Senior Manager of Software Quality Management Systems at Sonos, Inc.
From 2017 to 2018, Joel served as the Managing Partner and Lead Developer at iPayMyWay, Inc., a mobile app studio for non-profits. Joel led the architecture and development of apps, including "Be Heard for Rallies," which was selected for use by the students in Parkland, Florida, where the March For Our Lives movement began.
From 2018 to 2023, Joel was the Director of Software Engineering at Hydrow. Joel led client software teams, improved processes, achieved greater diversity in hiring, and managed relationships and integrations with hardware teams, OEMs, and external service providers.
Since 2023, Joel has been working as the Director of Software Engineering at Sense, where they are bringing their technology aimed at reducing global carbon emissions to scale.
Joel Margolese attended Dartmouth College from 1981 to 1985, where they earned a Bachelor's degree (AB) in Computer Science. Joel later pursued further education at The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, from 1989 to 1990, where they obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a focus on Business.
