Patrick Chen

Patrick Chen has a diverse work experience spanning over several companies in the biopharmaceutical industry. Patrick currently holds the position of Vice President CMC/Tech Ops at Senti Biosciences, starting in May 2023. Prior to that, they served as the Vice President of Manufacturing at Grace Science, LLC from March 2022 to March 2023.

From 2019 to 2022, Patrick worked at Sangamo Therapeutics, Inc. as the Senior Director of External Manufacturing. In this role, they were responsible for leading the External Manufacturing department and overseeing the CMO network's production of plasmid DNA, mRNA, gene therapy viral vectors, and cell therapy products for clinical trial use. Patrick also acted as the CMC leader for two of the company's partnered programs.

At Genentech, where they worked from 2006 to 2019, Patrick served as the Associate Director of Manufacturing Collaborations. Their responsibilities included CMO lifecycle management for several commercial biologics, contract negotiations, technology transfer, regulatory submissions, and budget management. Patrick also held the position of Technical Product Leader for Perjeta.

From 2002 to 2006, Patrick worked as the Associate Director of Project Management at Chiron Corporation. Prior to that, they held the role of Production Manager at Amgen from 2001 to 2002. At Amgen, they played a significant role in mfg lead on new BioNext project for Enbrel and was responsible for user requirements and manufacturing input into the design of the facility.

Patrick's career began at BASF Bioresearch Corp in 1993, where they served as a Process Development Engineer and later transitioned into the role of Manager Manufacturing. Patrick played a crucial role in CHO cell line selection and development of the Humira cell culture process. Patrick also supported the plant start-up of cell culture operations and led Phase 1 GMP manufacturing of Humira drug substance.

Their earliest known position was as an Engineer at XOMA, where they worked from 1989 to 1993.

Patrick Chen earned their BS in Chemical Engineering from UCLA, where they studied from 1985 to 1989. Patrick then pursued their MBA with a focus on Entrepreneurship from Babson F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business, attending from 1994 to 1997.
