Art Director

Series Entertainment, a leading AI-powered games and entertainment company backed by a16z & Bitkraft, is breaking new ground with narratively rich, mobile-first entertainment, harnessing innovative technologies enabled by our AI-powered Rho engine. We are looking for a proven Art Director/Lead Artist with a passion for characters and hands-on experience in creating player avatar systems in either 2D or 3D. The ideal candidate is creative, technically savvy with a deep knowledge of art asset creation and pipelines and is passionate about interactive fiction and is actively interested in fashion, lifestyle, and pop culture trends.

This person will integrate directly with our multiple games teams and our preexisting art team to be a “tastemaker”, ensuring we develop and curate content that enables our passionate community of players to represent themselves while accurately mirroring our partners' brands. We live on the edge where art and technology meet and require creative thinkers with a technology mindset. 

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with team leads and our existing art team to establish a clear creative vision for character content.
• Develop and refine our avatar systems art style, enabling our players to design avatars that represent their personalities quickly
• Push the boundaries of what’s possible when the best artists collaborate with AI.
• Curate and direct content production to ensure it meets our product goals and high standards.
• Ensure the artistic vision aligns with our brand partners intellectual property.
• Have a deep understanding of the performance optimizations necessary to deliver complex character systems and high quality game art on mobile platforms.

Requirements

• Strong artistic taste and an eye for quality with a high level of polish and execution.
• At least 5+ years of experience in the gaming industry.
• Experience with multiple shipped 2D/3D titles containing strong character integrations.
• Proficiency with game development tools and a strong understanding of the game development pipeline.
• Technical mindset with a firm understanding of game art pipelines, asset creation and optimization. We live between where art and technology meet.
• Experience building characters in both 2D & 3D, from models to rigs.
• Up-to-date knowledge of gaming trends and styles.
• Ability to collaborate across art disciplines, solve problems, and communicate with more technical teams.
• Initiative to solve problems with excellent follow-through.
• Passionate gamer across multiple platforms.
• Strong communicator with exceptional ability to give positive and constructive feedback.
• Must submit a portfolio showcasing the ability to create artwork in a range of different styles.

Pluses

• Working knowledge of the Spine 2D software package.
• Experience with stylized games.
• A broad game art skill set (jack of all trades). Can you jump on any task and see it through, to a high standard of execution?
• A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in the Arts/Computer Arts or similar field.
