Michelle Hankes

CEO at SHELTERCARE

Michelle Hankes is the current CEO at SHELTERCARE. Prior to their current position, Hankes served as the Executive Director of Market Development for the March of Dimes from March 2017 to November 2019. In this role, they were responsible for creating strategy and implementing fundraising plans for the three markets that made up the Greater Tennessee Territory. Additionally, Hankes represented the state as the media contact for communications, assuring brand integrity around the March of Dimes mission.

Hankes has also served as the Executive Director of American Red Cross of East Tennessee from July 2013 to March 2017. In this role, they managed a team of employees and volunteers who responded to disasters and helped people prevent, prepare for, and cope with emergencies. Hankes also oversaw the development and implementation of programs that educated the community on disaster preparedness and health and safety.

Michelle Hankes has a Master’s Degree in Science Education/Museum Science/Geology from the University of Iowa. Michelle also has a Bachelor’s Degree in Dual Major: Political Science/Theirtory & Music Performance/Theory from Eureka College. Michelle has certification from the Center for Community Leadership in Certification in Consultative Selling, and certification from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Certification in Facilitating for Groups and Certification of Nonprofit Management.
