Karen Mitchell

Karen Mitchell, MBA, SPHR, CBP, CCP has a strong and diverse work experience in the field of human resources. Karen started their career at Florida Power Corporation as a Senior Human Resources Representative from 1992 to 1995. Karen then worked at Florida Sea Inc as a Personnel Manager/Personnel Representative from 1995 to 1996. From 1996 to 2001, they served as an HR Manager/HR Representative at James Hardie Building Products.

In 2001, Karen joined Lakeland Regional Medical Center and held various positions including Director of Human Resources and Human Resources Manager/Employment Services. Karen was responsible for strategic direction, design, and measurement of HR programs, as well as recruitment and benefits administration.

From 2014 to 2016, they served as the Vice President/Chief Human Resources Officer at Indian River Medical Center, overseeing comprehensive HR programs and driving strategic goals. In 2017, they became the Director of Human Resources at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, where they led and aligned HR efforts with regional and corporate functions.

In 2019, Karen joined The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics as a Senior Human Resources Consultant before being promoted to Senior Director of Human Resources. Karen established HR strategy for the nation's largest private orthopedics practice and provided full-scale support for multiple divisions and locations.

Currently, Karen is the Human Resources Director for ShorePoint Health Port Charlotte & Punta Gorda, where they provide strategic and operational leadership for two acute care hospitals. Karen is focused on elevating HR service delivery and developing team members for success.

Karen Mitchell earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Management/HR Management from Eckerd College in 1991. Karen went on to pursue a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Florida Southern College, graduating in 2005. In 2000, Karen obtained the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR®) Certification from the HR Certification Institute - HRCI. Additionally, they hold certifications as a Certified Benefits Professional and a Certified Compensation Professional from WorldatWork.
