Cristian Hesselman

Cristian Hesselman's work experience includes various roles and positions at different organizations. Cristian started their career as a Ph.D. student at the University of Twente in 2000 and later worked as an Assistant Researcher at Novay (formerly Telematica Instituut), where they focused on developing mechanisms for distributing live video streams to mobile internet devices. Cristian also worked on research projects, supervised students, authored scientific publications, and managed technical teams.

After their time at Novay, Hesselman served as a Senior Researcher and Project Manager at Novay, managing technical teams and carrying out research and consultancy projects. Cristian also worked on topics such as sensor systems, adaptive multimodal user interfaces, and service platforms.

In 2011, Hesselman joined SIDN (the company responsible for the .nl domain), where they held roles such as Head of SIDN Labs and later became the Director of SIDN Labs. Cristian played a significant role in the company's research initiatives.

In addition to their work at SIDN, Hesselman has also held other positions, including Chair of the Board of Directors at NLnet Labs and Member of the Security and Stability Advisory Committee (SSAC) at ICANN. Cristian has also been involved in various organizations and boards related to cybersecurity and academia.

Hesselman's most recent role is as a Professor of Trusted Open Networking at the Universiteit Twente, where they focus on research and teaching in the field of cybersecurity. Cristian'sresearch interests include measurement-based internet security, collaborative security, and secure future networks.

Throughout their career, Hesselman has published scientific papers, initiated research projects, and supervised M.Sc. students. Cristian has a strong background in cybersecurity and has contributed significantly to the field through their research, teaching, and leadership roles.

Cristian Hesselman completed a Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of Twente from 2000 to 2005. Prior to that, from 1990 to 1996, they obtained a M.Sc. in Computer Science from the same university. In addition to their academic degrees, Cristian Hesselman has obtained additional certifications, including a University Teaching Qualification from the University of Twente in March 2023 and a UT English Proficiency for Academic Staff (C2) certification from the same institution in November 2020.
