Aurora Tejeida

Aurora Tejeida’s interest in protecting the environment and safeguarding the living beings we share this planet with started in an unexpected place: the concrete heavy streets of Mexico City. Growing up in this beautiful, yet intensely polluted city—where following health advisories meant recess was sometimes held indoors at school, something many British Columbians are sadly now familiar with due to forest fires—was a constant reminder of the climate emergency we are currently living in.

After a short career in journalism in Mexico City, Aurora moved to unceded Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) territories to complete a master’s degree in journalism at the University of British Columbia.

Since graduating, she has worked in various communications roles for non-profits and academic institutions, including Megaphone Magazine, Canopy, and the Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies—an interdisciplinary research institute based out of UBC. Aurora is particularly interested in the role communicators can play when it comes to knowledge mobilization. As one of the two communications co-leads in Sierra Club BC, she hopes to use her skills and experience to foster a better understanding of the work being done by the SCBC team.
