Maqbool Hussain, PhD

Technical Project Manager at Silfab Solar Inc.

Maqbool Hussain, PhD has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Maqbool started their career as a Senior Chemist in the Technical Quality Assurance Department at LIBERTY MILLS, where they managed a team of chemists and improved production quality through the development of new protocols and checklists.

Maqbool then moved on to North Carolina State University, where they served as a Visiting Student and conducted research on polymeric fluorescent brighteners for textile applications. Maqbool evaluated the structure-property relationship and performance on cotton substrata.

At the same institution, Maqbool worked as a Graduate Researcher Assistant, focusing on organic synthesis and structure-property relationship. Maqbool designed and synthesized functional ligands and organometallic Ru (II) dyes for energy applications in Dye-sensitized solar cells. Maqbool also fabricated lab-scale solar cells and measured their efficiency.

Following this, Maqbool worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at North Carolina State University, managing and mentoring students in research and training related to textile chemistry. Maqbool designed and developed a process to decolorize colored polyester fabrics for recycling purposes.

Maqbool then joined Tarkett, a thermoplastic fiber extrusion plant, as a Textile Chemist. In this role, they utilized green chemistry and Lean Six-Sigma principles to improve and re-engineer materials formulations. Maqbool managed technical projects from concept generation to implementation and led multidisciplinary teams of engineers and chemists. Maqbool also coordinated with external agencies and suppliers for raw material details and chemical composition assessments.

Currently, Maqbool is working as a Technical Project Manager at Silfab Solar Inc., where they are responsible for overseeing technical projects.

Throughout their career, Maqbool has demonstrated expertise in various areas including technical leadership, project management, research, process optimization, and material formulation.

Maqbool Hussain, PhD, completed their Bachelor's degree in Organic Chemistry at Karachi University from 2002 to 2006. Maqbool then pursued further education and obtained their PhD in Fiber and Polymer Science from North Carolina State University between 2010 and 2013.

Additionally, Maqbool Hussain has acquired several certifications to enhance their skills and knowledge. In 2014, they completed "The 7 HABITS of Highly Effective People" and "Project Management@Tarkett" programs offered by Tarkett. Later in 2016, they received the "Green Chemistry and Chemical Stewardship Certificate" from the University of Washington. The same year, they also obtained the "Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Catalyst Training" from the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute. Most recently, in 2020, Maqbool Hussain earned the "Project Leader (World Class Manufacturing)" certification, again from Tarkett.
