Scientific Software Engineer at SimBioSys, Inc.

Katherine Ritchie's work experience begins with their current role as a Scientific Software Engineer at SimBioSys, Inc., which they started in June 2021. Prior to this, they worked as a Computational Medicine Intern at SimBioSys, Inc. from May 2020 to January 2021. In 2019, Katherine held the position of Computational Medicine Intern at the same company, where they developed software to simulate metabolic models of breast cancer using RNA sequencing data and conducted analysis and correlation of clinical biomarkers.

In addition to their work at SimBioSys, Inc., Katherine also worked as a Course Assistant for Software Design Studio at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from January 2019 to May 2019. Their responsibilities included conducting code reviews, grading assignments, and providing assistance to students during office hours.

Prior to that, they worked as an Educational Facilitator at the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago from October 2018 to January 2019. In this role, they performed science shows and facilitated interactive experiences for museum guests of all ages.

Katherine also has experience as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the Luthey-Schulten Lab, where they worked on a stem-cell simulation project using microscopy data. Katherine also served as a mentor for the Young Scholar Program, which aims to expose minority high-school students to science.

In 2017, Katherine interned as a Genetic Counsellor, where they compiled research on various single nucleotide polymorphisms related to metabolic pathways. Additionally, they served as the Team Captain for the Model United Nations team in 2016-2017, where they taught team members, advised on policy, and coached on public speaking and resolution creation. Katherine was also a team member for multiple Model United Nations conferences, including one at Harvard University.

Katherine Ritchie attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign from 2017 to 2021, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Chemistry. Prior to that, they studied at the British International School of Chicago from 2015 to 2017, completing the International Baccalaureate program.
