Senior R&D Scientist at Siren

Matteo Catena has extensive work experience in various roles. Matteo currently holds the position of Senior R&D Scientist at Siren, starting in November 2021. Prior to this, they worked as a Data Scientist at SpazioDati srl from November 2020 to October 2021. Before that, they were a Data Scientist at NTENT from May 2019 to November 2020. Matteo also served as a Research Fellow at ISTI-CNR from July 2014 to May 2019. In addition, they gained experience as a Research and Development Intern at the University of Glasgow from January 2013 to June 2013. Earlier in their career, Matteo worked as a Web Developer at ViVieb for a brief period from October 2012 to December 2012 and as a Web Developer at ZeroCould from August 2011 to August 2012.

Matteo Catena started their education journey in 2007 when they enrolled at the Università degli Studi dell'Aquila to pursue a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Computer Science. Matteo completed their undergraduate studies in 2010.

In 2010, they continued their education at the same institution, pursuing a First Level Specializing-Master Course in Master in Web Technology. This program lasted until 2012.

Following their specialization, Catena joined the Università degli Studi dell'Aquila again in 2011 to pursue a Master of Science (MS) degree in Computer Science. Matteo completed this program in 2013.

After completing their Master's degree, Catena embarked on a higher level of education by enrolling at the GSSI - Gran Sasso Science Institute. Here, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Computer Science from 2013 to 2017.

In addition to their formal education, Catena obtained several certifications. In 2015, they attended the European Summer School on Information Retrieval (ESSIR) organized by the Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH). In 2016, they participated in the Lucene4IR Workshop conducted by the University of Strathclyde. In 2019, they became an Elasticsearch Engineer I, certified by Elastic. Lastly, in 2023, they obtained the Certified ScrumMaster® (CSM®) certification from the Scrum Alliance.
