Joel Poloney

Co-Founder & CTO at Siteline

Joel Poloney is the Co-Founder and CTO at Siteline. Prior to Siteline, Joel was a Senior Software Engineer Technical Lead at Google from February 2015 to May 2018. There, they lead the technical direction for the Firebase Console, the largest engineering team on Firebase (50+ engineers). Joel also launched Firebase Storage and MLKit, building out the Console experience for each. In addition, Joel pioneered the use of TypeScript and Angular inside of Google and on the Firebase team.

Other notable accomplishments while at Google include architecting fine-grained permission checking inside of the Firebase Console (the #1 most requested feature from customers), working with 20+ teams to bring this to light. Joel also actively maintained the mobile game Bingo Blast, migrating infrastructure from AWS to the Google Cloud as well as integrated new features and SDKs from across 15 different teams inside the company (Firebase, Ads, Analytics, etc). Lastly, Joel mentored an engineer in residence candidate and summer intern, both of which converted and hired as full time engineers.

Joel Poloney received a BS in Computer Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a JOY in Japanese from Yokohama National University.

They work with Claire Wilson - Head of Construction Solutions, Corey Wiseberg - Head of Sales, and Tanya Boyko - Chief of Staff & Head of Operations. Joel Poloney reports to Gloria Lin, Co-Founder & CEO. Oliver Manheim - Engineering, Arnav Mishra - Engineering, and Loïs Di Qual - Engineering report to Joel Poloney.
