Akshay Iyer has a diverse work experience in the field of computer vision and deep learning. Akshay is currently working at SkySpecs as a Senior Computer Vision Engineer. In this role, they have spearheaded the development of a deep learning based fault detection model for wind turbines, achieving a 95% accuracy rate. Akshay has also played a key role in architecting the AWS pipeline for model deployment and optimizing CPU inference time.

Prior to joining SkySpecs, Akshay worked as a Deep Learning Research Engineer at UMass Chan Medical School, where they focused on estimating a surrogate signal for cardiac motion activity due to respiration. Akshay worked on developing a more cost-effective and convenient alternative to the existing Vicon motion tracking system.

Before that, Akshay was a Research Assistant at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where their thesis project involved characterizing and mitigating the effects of adverse lighting on U-Net segmentation. Akshay worked on developing a smartphone application for chronic wound patients to capture images of their wounds and assess healing progress under different lighting conditions.

Akshay also gained industry experience as a Deep Learning Summer Intern at Smartwands Group, WPI, where they worked on image enhancement in adverse lighting conditions. Akshay focused on using deep learning techniques to improve semantic segmentation on wound images.

Furthermore, Akshay worked as a Computer Vision Researcher at BOS Lab, WPI, and as an RPA Developer/Technology Consultant at Deloitte India.

Akshay Iyer's education history is as follows:

Akshay attended St.Mary's High School for an unknown period of time. Starting in 2009, they specialized in Computer Science at Birla College of Arts, Science and Commerce until 2011. From 2011 to 2015, they completed a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in Electronics and Telecommunication at Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI). In 2015, they participated in the MIT Media Lab India Initiative, although it is not specified what degree or field of study they pursued there. Later, from 2018 to 2020, they attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute where they obtained a Master's degree in Robotics.

In addition to their formal education, Akshay Iyer has also obtained two certifications. In 2016, they obtained the TOGAF 9 FOUNDATION certification from The Open Group. In 2015, they completed a course in Game Theory offered by Stanford University and the University of British Columbia through Coursera.
