We’re looking for an Accounting Manager who knows how to hold a team (and themselves) highly accountable to results, deliverables, and is extremely detail-oriented. We have a complex cash close process monthly that needs intense attention to detail and delivery. AKA, someone who takes pride in being a psycho about the numbers, because you know that the right numbers lead everyone to make better business decisions.

We’ve built our brand with a team of experts in-house who know the industry, know properties, and know how to talk to properties, renters and home-buyers and now we need an Accounting Manager who will own all our financial details.

What will you do?

  • Accounting Department Management:
    • Lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting department.
    • Implement efficient accounting processes and procedures.
    • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual closes.
    • Manage and mentor accounting staff to enhance their skills and performance.
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards and legal requirements.
  • Accounts Receivable Management:
    • Supervise a growing accounts receivable team to optimize cash flow and reduce outstanding balances.
    • Monitor and analyze accounts receivable aging reports.
    • Develop and implement strategies to improve collections and reduce bad debt.
  • Compliance and Tax Management:
    • Take ownership of compliance and tax obligations in all states where the company operates.
    • Stay up-to-date with state and federal tax regulations and ensure compliance.
    • Work with external auditors and tax consultants as needed.
  • Financial Analysis:
    • Assist in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting activities.
    • Identify cost-saving opportunities and provide insights to support decision-making.
  • Team Development:
    • Coach, mentor, and develop the accounting team, promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
    • Foster teamwork, collaboration, and efficient workflows within the department and across the company.

Position Summary: Smart City, the nation's largest Locating brokerage, now has a dynamic and rapidly growing Digital marketing agency. We are looking for an experienced Accounting Manager to join our team and lead the accounting department, manage accounts receivable, and ensure compliance and tax responsibilities across the states we operate in. As our Accounting Manager, you will play a pivotal role in managing the financial operations of our organization. You will be responsible for overseeing the accounting department, leading growing accounts receivable functions, and ensuring compliance with tax regulations in all states we operate in. This is a critical position with a clear path for career progression.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position will lead the existing accounting team members

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.

  • CPA certification is preferred.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience, including management experience.

  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar).

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling.

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles.

  • Strong understanding of SQL and ability to pull data from a variety of sources

  • Experience in tax compliance and multi-state tax regulations.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to meet deadlines.

  • Experience in the multifamily industry is preferred but not required.

  • Knowledge of digital marketing financials is preferred but not required.

  • Prior experience with property management software (e.g., Yardi or RealPage) is preferred but not required.

  • Comfortable communicating to director, regional, and VP-level partners

  • Experience in a fast-paced environment where they get to try new things

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Physical Requirements:

  • Hybrid in-office role. Dallas, Austin, or Denver is preferred.
  • Travel to other markets may periodically be required.
  • Assures that safety regulations are followed at all times.
  • Adherence to compliance measures implemented by governing bodies such as but not limited to OSHA & the CDC. Follows policies and procedures including infection control, universal precautions, and exposure control plans when performing daily tasks.
  • Reports hazardous conditions, accidents, and incidents to the immediate supervisor.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping and crouching.

Expected Hours of Work:

  • Typical business hours: 8:30am - 5:30pm Monday - Friday, availability for escalations may be needed outside of normal business hours.

Travel:

  • Up to 10% of the time.
  • Minimal travel may be required for business functions, team training, and culture events.

Salary

  • Compensation range for this role is $80-$100K
