James McCarthy FCA BA(Hons) has extensive work experience in various finance roles. James is currently serving as the Head of Business Planning and FP&A at Smart DCC since March 2023. Prior to this, they held the position of Head of Business Planning at Smart DCC from May 2022 to March 2023.

Before joining Smart DCC, James worked as the Commercial Finance Director at OCS Group UK from October 2020 to January 2022. James was responsible for commercial finance management for both the Business and Industry facilities management division and the Specialist Services division.

From September 2015 to April 2020, James worked at npower, initially as the Head of Finance and later as the Head of Commercial. At npower, they played a crucial role in the smart meter rollout, metering operations, and fulfilling the Energy Company Obligations. James was accountable for P&L optimization and financial risk management, led a commercial review, and provided leadership to a professional team.

Before npower, James was employed at RWE Generation UK plc as the Financial Performance Reporting & Analysis Manager from March 2009 to July 2013. James also worked at RBS as the Lease Administration Manager from July 2003 to March 2009, handling large-scale structured asset finance.

James began their career at PwC, where they served as an Assistant Manager (Audit & Assurance) from September 1999 to July 2003. Throughout their career, James has showcased their financial expertise and leadership capabilities in various organizations.

James McCarthy FCA BA(Hons) has a strong educational background in business studies. James obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in Business Studies from Liverpool John Moores University, where they studied from 1995 to 1999. Prior to that, they attended Prince Henry's High School in Evesham from 1993 to 1995, where they completed 3 A-Levels in Business Studies, Geography, and Economics. James also attended the same high school from 1990 to 1993, during which they obtained 10 GCSE's.

In addition to their academic achievements, James has obtained professional certifications. James became a Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) from the ICAEW in October 2016. James also obtained the ACA certification from the ICAEW in March 2002.
