Project Overview 

  • Simulare Medical (Toronto), a division of Smile Train, Inc. (New York) is the largest cleft organization in the world.
  • Simulare Medical operates in the medical simulator production and distribution space, manufacturing simulated educational training tools for surgeons.
  • We are expanding the manufacturing and production of silicone and plastic medical products to use as simulators for the training of simulated maxillofacial surgery.
  • We are seeking a consultant or firm to identify a site for production and dissemination from Brazil to domestic locations and other countries in the region.

Scope of Work 

  • Conduct comprehensive market research to identify opportunities and challenges to produce Simulare Medical simulators and accessories in this country.

  • Analyze market trends, competitive landscape, regulatory environment, and consumer preferences.

  • Ensure compliance with international manufacturing standards, including quality control, safety regulations, and potential product certifications.

  • Develop strategies to meet or exceed our quality standards while optimizing manufacturing processes.

  • Assess factors such as infrastructure, logistics, transportation networks, utility access, and proximity to suppliers and markets.

  • Conduct a thorough cost analysis

  • Evaluate various cost components, including labor costs, utilities, raw materials, taxes, tariffs, and overhead expenses.

  • Determine the financial feasibility of manufacturing: Cost evaluation for the recommended volume and outline cost fluctuations in response to volume adjustments.

  • Identify potential risks and challenges associated with offshore manufacturing

  • Conduct a SWOT analysis that considers supply chain disruptions, regulatory changes, political instability, currency fluctuations, and environmental factors

  • Outline summary of key quality risks and strategies to uphold predetermined quality standards for our products and implement preventative measures to mitigate potential issues

  • Outline key risk management strategies and contingency plans to minimize disruptions and ensure business continuity

  • Develop a strategic roadmap outlining key steps, timelines, and resource requirements for implementing manufacturing operations.

  • Compensation: USD $8000 over a 12-week period.

  • 30% retainer paid upon completion of proposal and signed SOW

  • 70% paid upon completion of work

Qualifications  

  • Proficiency in both English and Portuguese

  • Experience in consulting for handmade plastic and silicone product manufacturing, with certifications and positive project references.

  • Strong project management and sleuthing/research skills

  • In-depth knowledge of international and local manufacturing standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Demonstrated success in similar manufacturing projects in the target market.

  • Effective communication and cultural sensitivity for optimizing supply chains and navigating regulatory environments.

  • Problem-solving skills for assessing risks in offshore production.

  • Knowledge of and ability to safeguard intellectual property according to local regulations.

  • Specialized knowledge in offshore manufacturing for medical training tools, focusing on silicone and plastic products.

  • Client references showing successful offshore expansion, particularly in:

  • Simulation products

  • Injection molding with Platinum-cure silicone

  • 3D printing plastics (PLA)

  • Geographical Knowledge

  • Required familiarity with the business environment and regulations, particularly in relation to manufacturing and exports in Sao Paulo, Brazil
