As an Associate Principal and Project Designer at SCB, Jay brings 20 years of experience and an award-winning portfolio of work ranging from high-rise, multi-family housing and Class A office buildings to world-class aviation facilities. Drawing from this breadth of experience, Jay excels at holistic conceptualization, applying lessons learned across numerous practice areas to bolster the project at hand. Jay feels most at home directing large, complex projects, and always strives to anticipate a client’s needs by designing to aspirational goals while simultaneously considering buildability and feasibility. A staunch advocate for design excellence, Jay consistently applies his creative problem-solving skills and diverse project expertise to exceed client expectations.
As a LEED Accredited Professional, Jay prioritizes sustainability in his work, weaving sustainable principles in achievable and practical ways into all of his projects. Staying current on trends and innovations, he actively participates in SCB’s Residential and Office Research and Development Committees in order to implement invigorating cutting-edge solutions. Ultimately, Jay understands that architecture should prioritize the end user; human-centric design is paramount. Currently, he is integral to SCB’s work at Ward Village in Honolulu, most recently working on The Park Ward Village and Victoria Place, both waterfront condominium towers. Prior to joining SCB, Jay’s notable projects included San Francisco International Airport’s Terminal 2, Terminal 3 East, and Terminal 3 Boarding Area E.
Jay believes that a critical part of the profession of architecture is mentorship and training for those who follow. Jay supports this legacy by mentoring junior staff and team members at SCB and through AIA San Francisco; he is also an active coach for young designers studying for their licensure exams. Jay has a Bachelor of Environmental Design from the University of Missouri and a Master of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania.
