Maarten Hietland is a researcher at SOMO since January 2019, focusing on issues related to international economics. Previously, Maarten served as a BA thesis supervisor for students in international economics at Radboud University from February to September 2021. Before that, Maarten worked as a policy advisor at Oxfam Novib from April to December 2018. Maarten holds a Master of Science degree in International Economics: Institutions, Globalisation and Development from Utrecht University (2013-2015) and a Master of Science degree in International Relations: International Political Economy from the University of Amsterdam (2013-2014). Additionally, Maarten earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Radboud University (2009-2012) and completed a Bachelor's degree in Political Sciences at Universitat de Barcelona (January to July 2011), along with an exchange programme in International Law at the same institution.
