Luís Duarte

Lead User Researcher at Sony Interactive Entertainment

Luís Duarte has extensive work experience in user research, particularly in the gaming industry. Luís worked at Sony Interactive Entertainment from 2018, starting as a Senior User Researcher and later becoming the Lead User Researcher. In these roles, they led research projects for PlayStation 5 titles, including Horizon: Forbidden West and Astro's Playroom. Luís also conducted research on the ergonomics of the PlayStation 5's DualSense controller. Prior to that, from 2015 to 2017, they worked at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe as a User Researcher, where they focused on games and system updates for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR. Luís was responsible for usability testing, competitor analysis, and creating research reports. Before their work at Sony, Duarte worked at Universidade de Lisboa, where they held several research and teaching positions. Luís was a Senior Researcher and Teaching Assistant, teaching informatics courses and supervising graduate students. Luís also participated in various research projects, developing mobile applications and conducting usability and accessibility experiments.

Luís Duarte obtained a Bachelor's degree in Informatics Engineering from the University of Lisbon, where they studied from 2002 to 2006. Following this, they pursued a Master of Science (MSc) in Informatics Engineering from the same institution, completing their studies in 2007. Continuing their education at the University of Lisbon, Duarte achieved a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Informatics in the years 2008 - 2014.

In terms of additional certifications, Duarte obtained a UX Certificate from Nielsen Norman Group in November 2017 and a UX Master Certificate from the same institution in August 2020.
