EVP, Philanthropy And Social at Sony Music Entertainment

Towalame Austin is a talented executive with over 20 years of experience in the non-profit sector. Ms. Austin has carved a niche in the charitable sector bridging the worlds of traditional philanthropy and entertainment philanthropy.

In her current role as EVP, Philanthropy & Social Impact for Sony Music Group, Towalame will work closely with the Communications and Human Resources teams to advance its humanitarian efforts through impactful contributions and sustained strategic partnerships. Additionally, she will work to extend philanthropic programs and activities across the company’s global network, while advising its businesses, artists and songwriters on charitable initiatives reflecting Sony Music Group’s existing commitment to corporate giving.

Towalame most recently held the role of Executive of Philanthropy for Roc Nation. During Towalame’s time at Roc Nation, she launched Rihanna’s charity venture, The Clara Lionel Foundation (CLF), which has made a worldwide impact on education, emergency response, and health programs. Towalame also launched the We The Best Foundation, founded by DJ Khaled, and supported the philanthropic efforts of artists such as Big Sean, Mariah Carey, Todd Gurley and Justise Winslow. These efforts have increased global support for education, healthcare, and emergency response program

Ms. Austin began her career in the non-profit sector with the Magic Johnson Foundation Inc., where she served as Director of Corporate Relations and Special Events nationwide, Executive Vice President, and President of the Foundation, respectively.

Following her tenure with the Magic Johnson companies, Ms. Austin went on to serve as President for the Mourning Family Foundation, founded by retired NBA player Alonzo Mourning and his wife Tracy. The Mourning Family Foundation has a rich history of providing a platform of programs that inspire through advocacy, education, and enrichment to disadvantaged youth in Miami.

She currently serves on the Philanthropic/Advisory Board for her Alma Mater, California State University, Dominguez Hills.

Ms. Austin holds a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in Marketing and a concentration in Women’s Studies from California State University Dominguez Hills.
