Michael Newkirk

Vice President, Corporate Environmental, Health & Safety at Sotera Health

Michael Newkirk, MEM, CSP has extensive experience in corporate environmental, health, and safety (EHS) leadership roles. Michael is currently the Vice President of Corporate EHS at Sotera Health, LLC, where they are responsible for driving EHS excellence and consistency across the company's three businesses. Prior to this role, Michael was the Director of Environment, Health, and Safety at L3Harris Technologies, where they successfully improved safety and environmental performance within the Space and Airborne Systems segment. Michael also held various positions at Fluor Corporation, including Executive Director of Corporate HSE and Senior Director of Corporate HSE Programs. Earlier in their career, Michael worked at GE Energy, where they led global EHS teams and implemented strategic initiatives to improve EHS awareness and compliance throughout the company. Michael began their career as a Project Coordinator and Laboratory Technician at The SeaCrest Group, where they developed systems to streamline water chemistry and toxicity testing. Throughout their career, Michael has consistently delivered exceptional safety performance and implemented innovative initiatives to reduce risk and improve organizational culture.

Michael Newkirk holds a Master of Environmental Management degree specializing in Industrial Environmental Management from the Yale School of the Environment, which they earned from 1998 to 2000. Prior to that, they attended Connecticut College from 1989 to 1993. In addition to their degrees, they also obtained certifications as a Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSGB) from GE in 2001 and as a CSP (Certified Safety Professional) from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals in December 2018.
