Rafael Casas

Rafael Casas has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of geology. Rafael began their career in 2007 as a Trainee Geologist at the Augusta Group of Companies, where they gained experience in exploration projects. Rafael then worked as a Junior Geologist at AngloGold Ashanti, responsible for the exploration of La Colosa Porphyry.

In 2009, Rafael joined CB Gold Inc as an Exploration Geologist, where they focused on district exploration for gold targets in Colombia. Rafael then moved to Golder Associates as a Project Geologist in 2010 before joining Yamana Gold Inc in 2011 as an Exploration Geologist. At Yamana Gold, they were responsible for planning and implementing exploration programs for gold, silver, and copper.

Rafael took a sabbatical year in 2014 and worked as a Freelance Consulting Geologist from 2015 to 2017. During this time, they gained valuable experience in project evaluations and technical report preparation.

In 2017, Rafael joined Golder and held various roles, including Senior Geologist and Project Geologist. Rafael gained experience in geotechnical drilling supervision and training other geologists in mapping and supervision of geotechnical drilling.

In 2022, Rafael joined GeoBlast as a Geologist before moving to their current role at South32 as the Principal Operations & Compliance.

Rafael Casas obtained a Diplomado in Compliance y Gobernanza from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in 2023-2024. Prior to this, they completed an M.Sc. in Economic Geology with a focus on Exploration at Universidad Católica del Norte from 2012-2014. In 2007, Rafael achieved a degree in Geólogo from Universidad Industrial de Santander.
