Josh Carpenter

Josh Carpenter serves as the President and CEO of Southern Research since May 2021, following a tenure as a Non-resident Senior Fellow at The Brookings Institution. Prior experience includes roles as Director of Innovation and Economic Opportunity for the City of Birmingham and Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham's Collat School of Business. Josh has also held positions such as Director of External Affairs at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Regional Care Organizations Liaison at VIVA Health, along with co-founding Bama Covered. Initial career experience includes teaching secondary English with Teach for America and interning at the White House. Josh holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Politics from the University of Oxford and a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
