Jason Givens

Lead Database Administrator at Southwestern Energy

Jason Givens has over 25 years of experience in the IT industry. Jason started their career as an Analyst/Programmer at IBM, where they worked as a college intern in a configuration/refurbishment facility. Jason was responsible for assembling and configuring new systems and refurbishing existing systems for various IBM customers.

After their internship, Jason joined Southwestern Energy, where they held various roles. Jason worked as a Programmer, where they gained experience in COBOL development, RPG development, SYNON, and Visual Basic. Jason was also introduced to SQL Server during this time.

Jason then moved on to a role as a Programmer/Analyst, where they played a key role in migrating from centralized AS/400 applications to client/server applications and the use of SQL Server. Jason also mentored other developers and performed code-walkthroughs and reviews.

Jason later transitioned to a Business Analyst role, where they filled multiple roles within the growing IT department. Jason'sduties included web development, SQL Server development and administration, project lead, project management, system administration, system builds, installations, and upgrades.

Jason then became a Database Analyst, responsible for all aspects of database administration, development, troubleshooting, and general database work for both business and IT. Jason led efforts in upgrading servers and databases, implemented backup/restore procedures, system scripting, and maintenance procedures. Jason also implemented tools to assist in troubleshooting, performance monitoring, and security/compliance measures.

Jason'smost recent role at Southwestern Energy was as a Senior Database Administrator, where they provided day-to-day support for SQL Servers and databases, ensuring efficient and reliable data access. Jason worked closely with developers and business personnel to provide accurate and efficient applications and processes.

Throughout their career, Jason has utilized tools and technologies such as SQL Server, T-SQL, SQL Server Reporting Services, Informatica, ASP.NET, Visual Basic, and various diagnostic and compliance management tools.

Jason Givens has a strong educational background in computer science and business information systems. Jason obtained their Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science from the University of Arkansas, where they studied from 1991 to 1995. Jason then went on to pursue a Master of Information Systems degree in Business Information Systems from the same institution, studying from 1997 to 2000. Prior to their undergraduate studies, they briefly attended the University of Arkansas at Monticello in 1989 and 1990 to study Computer Science. In addition to their formal education, Jason has also obtained certifications in SQL Server, including the SQLskills IEAzure - SQL Server 2017 certification in October 2019 and the SQLskills IEHADR - SQL Server 2014 certification in May 2014.
