Shannon Potter USN (ret.) has a diverse work experience spanning over multiple industries. Shannon began their career as an Electronics Technician in the US Navy in 2000 and served in that role until 2007. Shannon then transitioned to become a Surface Warfare Officer until 2010, during which they headed the Navy's largest and oldest Destroyer Squadron's Temporary Duty Department. As a Personnel Officer, they supervised personnel augmentation, coordinated travel itineraries, and managed legal matters.
From 2012 to 2013, Shannon worked in retail management and participated in the highly competitive retail Junior Military Officer Leadership Development Program. Shannon gained expertise in retail logistics, workforce management, customer service, and departmental management.
In 2013, Shannon started working in the defense industry as the Surface Warfare Officer Acquisition Corps Community Manager at Alion Science and Technology. In this role, they provided strategic personnel management for Naval Sea Systems Command and coordinated officer detailing and placement.
From 2014 to 2016, Shannon served as an Acquisition Workforce Manager at the Department of the Navy Research, Development, and Acquisition (RD&A), supporting the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development and Acquisition. Shannon was responsible for policy and program framework development for the Navy and Marine Corps Acquisition Workforce.
During their time at the US Army Acquisition Support Center (USAASC) from 2016 to 2018, Shannon served as the Army Acquisition Workforce Outreach & Communication Program Manager. Shannon expanded the communications office and implemented various communication tools to improve internal and external communication.
In 2018, Shannon worked as the Director of Communications at Service to School, an organization that helps veterans with their higher education application process. Shannon then joined Systems Planning and Analysis, Inc. later in the same year as the Strategic Communication Technical Leader and Capability Manager.
Throughout their career, Shannon demonstrated strong leadership, communication, and strategic skills in various roles within the military, defense industry, retail management, and the non-profit sector.
Shannon Potter USN (ret.) completed a Bachelor's degree in Communications from Washington State University between 2004 and 2007. Later, from 2012 until 2014, Shannon pursued further education at Defense Acquisition University, where they completed a program in Program Management, Level II.
