Markus currently holds the position of Geschäftsführer/CEO at Spanflug Technologies GmbH, where they are responsible for the operation of a manufacturing platform for CNC turning and milling parts. This platform offers customers a fully automated procurement process, from instant price calculation to online ordering. The CNC components are exclusively manufactured by qualified suppliers in Germany.

Prior to their current role, Markus served as Geschäftsführer at AWM Maschinenbau GmbH, a company specializing in machinery construction.

Before entering the private sector, Markus worked at the Institut für Werkzeugmaschinen und Betriebswissenschaften at TUM. During their time there, they held various roles including Gruppenleiter Themengruppe Werkzeugmaschinen, Forschungsfeldleiter Batterieproduktion, and Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter Montagetechnik und Robotik.

Markus also gained practical experience through internships at Audi, where they worked on process control for pressing machinery, and SE M Ltd, where they were involved in production planning for electric motors. Additionally, they interned at HEIDENHAIN CORPORATION for a short period.

Markus Westermeier pursued their education in engineering, specializing in the field of mechanical engineering. Markus attended the Technical University of Munich from 2005 to 2010, obtaining their Diplom-Ingenieur degree. Following this, they briefly attended the University of British Columbia in 2010. Later, Markus returned to the Technical University of Munich from 2011 to 2016 to further their education and successfully earned their Dr.-Ing. degree.
