Katie Steen-James

Katie Steen-James is a seasoned public policy and advocacy professional with extensive experience in higher education and legislative affairs. Currently serving as the Manager of Public Policy & Advocacy at SPARC since February 2021, Katie previously held roles including Federal Relations Officer and Policy Associate at the Association of American Universities. Early career experience includes contract work in Open Education Policy at SPARC, Higher Education Associate at U.S. PIRG, and several leadership positions at the University of Missouri System, where Katie was the Executive Director of the Associated Students of the University of Missouri. Educational qualifications include a Master's Degree in Public Affairs and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
